Can you earn college credit through being an apprentice?

Yes! Often, apprenticeship sponsors (employers) will work directly with local community colleges that will provide college credit for apprenticeship experience. Once you’ve been accepted into an apprenticeship program, your employer will be able to give you all the details.

How do apprentices get paid?

Apprentices are paid employees and the employer is responsible for paying their apprentices during the duration of the Registered Apprenticeship Program. Apprentices will earn as they learn with a guaranteed wage increase as they develop new skills. Wyoming has apprenticeship grants available to employers to offset these costs (learn more about funding here).

What do apprentices earn after completing their apprenticeship program?

Those who successfully complete a registered apprenticeship program will earn a nationally recognized Certificate of Completion of Apprenticeship, awarded by the Office of Apprenticeship (OA) or the State Apprenticeship Agency (SAA). They also earn any certificates or licenses offered by the industry and their related technical instruction provider.

Do you have to complete a pre-apprenticeship to begin an apprenticeship?

Pre-apprenticeships aren’t required for entry into most apprenticeship programs. However, the skills you gain through a pre-apprenticeship can make you stand out in the apprenticeship applicant pool when employers are looking, among other benefits. (Find out more benefits of pre-apprenticeship here.)

What does it cost to sponsor a Registered Apprenticeship Program?

While there isn’t a fixed, “one size fits all” cost for every program, we’re happy to help you find state and federal funds, grants, and additional resources to help your program be successful. Let’s talk about it

What are my responsibilities as a Registered Apprenticeship Program sponsor?

As a sponsor, you’re responsible for designing and executing apprenticeship programs, providing jobs to your apprentices, overseeing training development, and providing hands-on learning and technical instruction for your apprentices.

We, as well as numerous other agencies, are here to support you in creating and maintaining a successful Registered Apprenticeship Program; if you have any questions, reach out any time

As a Registered Apprenticeship Program sponsor, what funds are available to help offset some of the costs associated with my apprenticeship program?

As a sponsor, you can apply for funds through the Workforce Development Training Fund (WDTF), the State Apprenticeship Expansion Formula (SAEF) grant, or pre-apprenticeship funding. You can even apply for an internship grant to vet an apprentice as a good fit before committing to the apprenticeship program!
