Find A WYOMING Apprenticeship
What is a registered
apprenticeship program?
In Wyoming, three types of Registered Apprenticeship Programs (RAP) are available:
- Time-based, where you’ll complete a required number of hours of on-the-job learning and related technical instruction;
- Competency-based (no specific hours required), where you’ll demonstrate competency in skills and knowledge through proficiency demonstrations; and
- Hybrid, a blend of the above, in which you have a minimum and maximum range of hours based on the successful demonstration of identified and measured competencies
}
Through a registered apprenticeship program, you’ll have the opportunity to gain a license or certificate to practice your chosen craft within a specific industry. Training combines aligned classroom instruction and hands-on experience with an employer.
An apprenticeship can be offered:
- At a training center
- On the job / in-house
- At a community college or university
- Online
As you search apprenticeships, you’ll notice some employers have the abbreviation “JATC” after their name. This stands for “Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee,” which is a group of labor and management representatives that oversees apprenticeship training and provides education and training for workers in various trades and industries.
Following national guidelines, JATCs are committed to developing and standardizing education in their industry through proper and effective training, with the end goal of building a skilled workforce with certifications and/or licensing in a given occupation.
What are the benefits of being an apprentice?
Apprentices get paid to train for a career they love.
Additional benefits include the potential to:
- Get guaranteed wage increases as you develop new skills
- Earn industry-recognized credentials you can bring with you anywhere
- Get hands-on, real-life experience in actual workplaces and job sites, working alongside the pros in your field
- Earn credit toward a college degree through the apprenticeship path you pursue.
What happens after the apprenticeship ends?
Once you successfully complete your apprenticeship, you’ll come away with more than on-the-job training and experience; you’ll have a license or certificate to practice your chosen craft, trade, or occupation.
Students: don’t forget your Student Learner or student training Agreement!
Before you begin your apprenticeship, you and your employer will need to complete and submit the agreement paperwork linked below.
