YOUR TEAM HAS A LOT TO OFFER THE NEXT GENERATION
You have the skills, the experience, and the knowledge.
Wyoming apprentices and pre-apprentices have the enthusiasm, drive, and willingness to learn.
LET’S WORK TOGETHER TO PASS IT ON
Registered Apprenticeship Programs (RAP) and Quality Pre-Apprenticeship Programs benefit employers and apprentices/pre-apprentices alike.
As an employer, you get to develop and prepare your future workforce by passing on your valuable industry knowledge.
As for your apprentices, they’ll not only benefit from your hard-earned experience and willingness to teach—they’ll also get paid to train for their future career.
What is a registered apprenticeship program?
A Registered Apprenticeship Program (RAP) is a tried-and-true approach for preparing workers for jobs.
Following an employer-driven model, RAP combines on-the-job learning with related classroom instruction that increases an apprentice’s skill level and wages as they progress. By successfully completing the program, apprentices master every skill and have all the knowledge needed to be fully proficient for a specific occupation.
With years of success, RAPs are a proven solution for Wyoming businesses to recruit, train, and retain highly skilled workers—as well as build a highly-skilled workforce that will continue to innovate and adapt to meet the needs of the 21st century.
a registered apprenticeship program must have 5 key components:
Business Involvement: Employers are the foundation of every apprenticeship program, and the skills needed by their workforce are at its core. It’s crucial that businesses play an active role in building their program and be involved in every step in designing the apprenticeship.
On-the-Job Training (OTJ): Every program includes structured OTJ training, during which apprentices get hands-on training from an experienced mentor at the job site for typically not less than one year. OTJ is developed by mapping the skills and knowledge an apprentice must learn over the course of the program in order to be fully proficient at their occupation.
National Occupational Credential: Every apprentice that completes a RAP receives a nationally-recognized credential.
Related Instruction (RI): RI complements the apprentices’ OTJ learning and delivers the technical, workforce, and academic competencies that apply to their specific occupation. Wyoming education partners collaborate with businesses and Wyoming Apprenticeships to develop specific RI curriculum, based on the skills and knowledge needed by apprentices. RI can be provided by a community college, a technical school, an apprenticeship training school, or by a business itself. All partners work together to identify how to pay for the related instruction, including the cost to the employer and other funds that can be leveraged.
Rewards for Skill Gains/Wage Progression: For reward and motivation as they advance through their training, apprentices receive increases in pay as their skills and knowledge increase. Employers work with Wyoming Apprenticeships to establish wage progression through the apprenticeship as skill benchmarks are met by apprentices.
